Physical Development
- Crawls on hands and knees.
- Starts to walk without help or support.
- Eats using a spoon and drinks water or milk from a cup.
- Sits without support and reaches for objects that are close without falling.
- Uses fingers and thumb to pick up objects that are small.
- Holds crayons and color pencils in a way that allows them to color.
- Grabs toys while walking.
- Can help undress him/herself.
Cognitive Development
- Tacks two blocks/things.
- Searches for a hidden object.
- Understands 'no', 'bye-bye' and 'come here'.
- Can follow 1-step verbal commands without any gestures.
Language Development
- Says 2 to 8 words.
- Recognizes the sounds of animals.
- Controls intonations, patterns of those similar to parents.
- Says and shakes head 'no'.
- Points to show someone what he/she wants.
Socio-Emotional Development
- Distinguishes self and others.
- Fears strange people and places, and may cling to caregivers in new situations.
- Waves 'bye-bye'.
- Plays peek-a-boo.
- Shows affection to familiar people.
- Plays simple pretend, such as feeding a doll etc
- Points to show others something interesting.
- Explores by him/herself with parents close by.
PLAY
Give your child things to stack up and to put into and take out of containers. Sample toys: nesting and stacking objects, containers and cloth clips.
COMMUNICATE
Ask your child simple questions. Respond to your child's attempt to talk. Show and talk about nature, pictures and things.
