Visual Communication

This type of communication is most common in our society. Visual communication occurs via photography, art, images etc. Visuals support the information we convey to achieve the right message we want.

Visual communication is key in delivering a the message and also helps in retaining key information derived from the visuals itself.

How to effectively use visual communication:

  • Understand your audience:
    • Understand what your audience really wants, you can either directly ask what type of communication they prefer or you can ask someone who has worked with them.
    • Only use visual communication when the people you are communicating with finds value in visual communication.

  • Make visuals clear and easy to understand: be mindful of the color schemes, diagrams, images etc as all these impact the message you are trying to disseminate.

  • Use as little text as possible: simplify the language and consider removing text to ensure that information can be read and understood quickly.
    • Rather than using text, try using various shapes or imagery to indicate certain things.
    • You can also highlight key information using certain colors so it attracts and retains user attention.

  • Use the data to tell a story: once you have understood what your audience is looking for, you can identify key data or information they may be interested in and you can use that in your visual communication to create a narrative that reinforces information relevant to your customer in a clear and organized way.
